This study aims to evaluate the current knowledge management (KM) practices, and empirically test the direct impact of knowledge management processes (KMP) on individuals' work performance (IWP) of employees in the Egyptian public sector oil companies in Alexandria Governorate. It also investigates the moderating effect of perceived organizational support (POS) in facilitating the way for KMP to lead IWP. Five practices of KM, including identification, creation, storage, dissemination, and application of knowledge, were identified from the literature and tested for their combined positive effect on individual work performance which was measured through two dimensions namely, task performance, and contextual performance.
The Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS V.23) program was used to achieve the objectives of the study and test hypotheses. The study reaches a set of results, the most important of them is that knowledge management processes in their combined dimensions exert significant effects on individual work performance. Moreover, the results indicate that perceived organizational support (POS) moderates the effect of knowledge management processes on individuals work performance of employees. As to strengthen the above relationship, the POS's role is significant. In the light of the results, the study presents a set of recommendations in order to activate and improve the level of knowledge management processes, with the need for management to pay sufficient attention to provide the elements for improving the level of organizational support provided to employees, due to the pivotal role of the human element and its knowledge in achieving performance excellence and developing companies' competitive capabilities.
