The Impact of Strategic Planning on Institutional Sustainability in The Newly Established Palestinian Universities

Abstract

The study aims to identify the impact of strategic planning on institutional sustainability in light of the availability of organizational capabilities as a mediating variable in the newly established universities in the Gaza Strip. This study utilized the descriptive and analytical approach, as it relied on the questionnaire to collect data from its primary sources. The study population was represented by top and middle managerial positions in addition to academics’ staff in newly established Palestinian universities in the Gaza Strip, where the total size of the target community reached 122 employees. The researcher adopted the survey method for the study population, where 122 questionnaires were distributed to the population of the study, and they were all collected back and used for the purposes of analysis.
The study concluded with a set of results, the most important of which is the existence of a high positive evaluation regarding the level of availability of strategic planning elements, organizational capabilities and institutional sustainability within the newly established Palestinian universities, as the relative weights of those dimensions reached (79.4%), (79.8%) and (78.2%) respectively. The results showed a direct positive and statistically significant impact of strategic planning on institutional sustainability in newly established Palestinian universities in the Gaza Strip, and the results also indicated an indirect and statistically significant effect of strategic planning on institutional sustainability in the presence of organizational capabilities as a mediating variable in the Newly established Palestinian universities in the Gaza Strip.
Finally, the results of the study showed the existence of a direct and statistically significant impact of strategic planning on organizational capabilities and the existence of such an effect of organizational capabilities on the institutional sustainability of the work of the newly established Palestinian universities in the Gaza Strip.The study recommended the necessity of integrating sustainability scenarios within the framework of strategic planning work in these universities in order to diversify the financial resources and not be satisfied with the revenues generated by the students
