The impact of intellectual capital and information technology on the entrepreneurial characteristics of organizations by applying to governmental commercial banks in Egypt

Abstract

This study aimed at identifying the impact of intellectual capital and information technology on the entrepreneurial characteristics of organizations in governmental commercial banks in Egypt. The study also aimed at identifying the joint effect of intellectual capital and information technology on Egyptian governmental commercial banks as organizations that have entrepreneurial characteristics. Data were collected using a simple random sample from the employees in Egyptian governmental commercial banks (Cairo Bank, Misr Bank, Al-Ahly Bank) in Alexandria and Cario, where 384 questionnaires were distributed and 317 of them were returned valid. The findings of the study relevealed that there was a significant impact of intellectual capital on the entrepreneurial characteristics of organizations and intellectual capital interprested 69.7% of the changes in the entrepreneurial characteristics of organizations. Information technology also had a significant impact on the entrepreneurial characteristics of organizations and it interprested 54.6% of the changes in the entrepreneurial characteristics of organizations. Furthermore, the study found that both intellectual capital and information technology as independent variables had significant impact on the entrepreneurial characteristics of organizations as a dependent variable and they interprested 70.7% of the changes in the entrepreneurial characteristics of organizations. This effect is due to human requirements and relational requirements of intellectual capital and all dimensions of information technology in Egyptian governmental commercial banks as organizations that have entrepreneurial characteristics. The study recommended increasing the focus on the human element through training on recent technological changes required to develop the work, reforming organizational structures to be more flexible, debeloping software and applications, encouraging employees’ creativity and innovation via their empowerment, creating an innovative compensation system, and making employees participate in brain-storming sessions.
