Towards The Establishment of Mega Ship breaking Facility and Steel Manufacturing Complex at North West Gulf of Suez

Abstract

Emanating from the importance of making the best use of Egypt’s genuine strategic location and the role of Suez Canal in serving world seaborne trade , this research concens the formulation of a future vision for establishing a modern ship breaking facility and a state of the art Iron and Steel plant , both within the complex as integrating industries as to set up at North West Gulf of Suez , this very location which overviews strategic shipping and trade lanes where more than 17000 ship transit Suez Canal both ways North and South bound each year , considering the management of world shipping fleet which under certain economic and operating factors impose the laiding up of many ships as for old aging or replacements , these laid up ships are considered a major source of Iron scrap which is massively used worldwide in the Iron and Steel industry, in countries like China , India , Pakistan , Bangaldish , Turkey …etc., considering the nature of these industries as labor intensive industries , taking into account the technical and economic requirements for establishing such industries , it was clear from the research the possibility of  establishing  that project ,which could contribute positively to the Egyptian Economy , many factors could lead to the success of the project starting from from efficient planning to rational management ,taking into account the importance of circular integration between the proposed ship breaking facility and the Iron and steel plant , with opitimistic prospects for the future eatblishing a ship building industry within the master plan of the project would be a graet contribution to the Egyptian economy , other development outcome would be expected from the new community and city serving the housing and living needs of the project labor .  Environmental conditions were considered thouroughly within the research, as it was asserted to follow in great compliance the international and Egyptian codes concerning the safe operation of such industries. In conclusion the research pointed the positive prospects of the project, the research also emphasized the complete and accurate application of all anti pollution and environmental codes have to do with the proposed complex project.
