Abstract

This study aims to identify the impact of sustainability practices on lean practices, process innovation and improvement of sustainable supply chain performance. A sample of 370 industrial SMEs in Alexandria governorate operating in several industrial fields such as plastics, garments, metal industries, furniture, leather, food and beverages was chosen. In order to achieve this goal, a questionnaire was specifically designed to collect the preliminary data of the study, and through the Cronbach alpha scale it was confirmed that the measures of the study variables were consistent. Additionally, the Partial Least Square (PLS) analysis was used to analyze the relationships within the model as well as test the model and hypotheses. The study found a positive impact of sustainability practices on lean practices and process innovation as well as on improving the sustainable performance of the supply chain. On the other hand, the results showed the absence of a mediating role of lean practices and process innovation on the relationship between sustainability practices and the sustainable performance of the supply chain. Accordingly the first to third hypotheses were accepted while the fourth and fifth hypotheses were rejected.
